Opticca Consulting is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Director of Technology โ€“ R&D Leadership for one of our esteemed clients. This role is responsible for leading and mentoring a distributed team of developers and QA professionals while driving innovation, technical excellence, and strategic alignment with business objectives. The ideal candidate is self-driven, technically confident, and has a strong product and design thinking mindset.

You can expect to

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership:

  • Manage a distributed team of developers and QA professionals, including hiring, onboarding, compensation, and promotions.
  • Lead and mentor the team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to provide support, feedback, and professional development.

Project Management:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of software projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Effectively manage project timelines, budgets, and resources.
  • Collaborate with the product team to refine and execute the roadmap, ensuring product ownership of the โ€œwhatโ€ and โ€œwhy,โ€ while leading the team in defining the โ€œhow.โ€

Technical Leadership:

  • Maintain a strong technical presence, including hands-on coding and code reviews to stay current.
  • Guide the team in making sound technology decisions regarding quality, maintainability, and flexibility.
  • Research, evaluate, and experiment with emerging technologies.
  • Ensure governance and compliance best practices, including SOC 2 and PCI security audits and enforcement.
  • Leverage AI familiarity or past shipped projects.
  • Manage infrastructure and server costs (Azure W-AF).

Strategic Planning:

  • Contribute to the development of the companyโ€™s technical strategy and roadmap.
  • Align the teamโ€™s work with overall business goals.
  • Provide business and client context to the team to foster a sense of ownership.

Process Improvement:

  • Continuously evaluate and improve engineering processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Implement best practices and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must-Have Skills & Background:
    • Self-driven and proactive.
    • Strong technical confidence.
    • Product and design thinking experience.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Hands-on experience with Azure Cloud, Java, JavaScript frameworks (various .JSโ€™s), and SQL Server.
    • Strong understanding of software architecture and development best practices.
  • Leadership Experience:
    • Proven track record of leading teams
    • Experience with hiring, mentorship, and career growth initiatives.
  • Compliance & Security:
    • Familiarity with SOC 2 and PCI compliance standards.
  • AI Experience:
    • Knowledge or experience with AI-related projects.
  • Project & Cost Management:
    • Experience managing infrastructure and server costs (Azure W-AF).
